CA COVID-19 Rent Relief is a state-wide program for renters and landlords. If you are an income eligible landlord or renter in Nevada County and need help with past due, current, or future rent or utilities because of a financial hardship caused by COVID-19, you may be eligible for assistance through the CA COVID-19 Rent Relief program. Payments will be made directly to landlords and utility providers. 

Applications opened on March 17, 2021. For Nevada County, this statewide rent relief is available through Housing Is Key. AMI Housing provides rent relief in Nevada County and will contact eligible applicants who apply through the state's website (HousingIsKey.com) or the state COVID-19 Rent Relief Call Center (833-430-2122).

The CA COVID-19 Rent Relief Program is a state-wide rent relief program for renters and landlords. Applications opened on March 17, 2021. The CA COVID-19 Rent Relief program offered by the state is provided on a county by county basis.
  • For Placer County, this statewide rent relief is available through the "Emergency Rental Assistance Program" (or ERAP).
  • For Nevada County, this statewide rent relief is available through Housing Is Key.

211 offers Nevada and Placer county residents assistance with applications for the Housing Is Key rental assistance program. People are eligible for assistance with their applications if they have one or more of these barriers to accessing the application:
  • No internet access
  • Don’t know how to use a computer or other device
  • Have a disability that keeps them from being able to use a computer or other device
  • Any other barrier to accessing and completing the online application

RECOVERY NAVIGATORS FOR NEVADA COUNTY RESIDENTS
Connecting Point offers Recovery Navigators for Nevada County residents impacted by the River Fire. Call 211 or 833-342-5211 to receive a referral to a Navigator who will contact you within one business day to offer assistance during your recovery process.

Navigators will work one-on-one with individuals and families that have been impacted by the River Fire. Meeting regularly and as needed, the Navigators will be able to work with you step-by-step throughout the recovery process, provide you with resources for any need that comes up, navigate the County, State, Federal re-building processes that you will encounter, advocate for additional resources as needed, provide a physical place where you can print, fax, email, and copy documents, and keep you up to date with any updates as they are released.

Sierra Community House can provide rental assistance to qualifying individuals and households who live in Tahoe and Truckee.

Screening and Applications
Sierra Community House will screen households to assist each community member who may qualify. If households qualify, Sierra Community House will go through the application process with them so that the household may receive assistance with their rental payments.

Locations
The rental assistance scope includes anyone in Placer or Nevada counties who specifically resides in Tahoe and Truckee areas.

People who are mandatorily evacuated due to wildfire or other disasters may have homeowners' or renters' insurance coverage to help with evacuation and relocation costs, even if their homes are not damaged or destroyed.

Additional Living Expense coverage, known as ALE, typically includes:
  • Food and housing costs
  • Furniture rental, relocation and storage
  • And extra transportation expenses

Who to Contact:
Residents who have been evacuated should contact their insurance agent and/or the California Department of Insurance to find out what their renter's or homeowners' policy covers and other resources that may be available to them while the mandatory evacuation orders are in place. Evacuees are urged to contact their insurance company to verify their ALE coverage provision and limits and learn about requirements to use the coverage.
