AMI Housing, Inc (AMIH) is a California nonprofit that provides housing, employment and life skills programs to residents of Nevada County and Placer County who otherwise might be homeless. Nevada County residents must be clients of Turning Point.

All AMI programs require:

  • proof of county residency for 14 days before being eligible for funding
  • current income that can support housing costs going forward after any funding assistance from AMIH

AMIH offers assistance in multiple languages through a Language Line service.

About the TAY program

  • AMIH has funding for specific programs to serve Transition Age Youth (TAY) ages 18-24 in PLACER COUNTY. Nevada County does not have TAY (Transition Age Youth) specific funds via AMIH. In NC any funding AMIH may have for housing is all one pot. Casa Dewitt is not an emergency shelter and/or housing.

Casa Dewitt, operated by Placer County Adult System of Care (ASOC), provides a 12-bed transitional housing program for chronically homeless adults with a mental illness who are ready to transition into permanent housing.

There is an interview process, a wait list, and placement depends on level of functioning and appropriateness plus bed availability. The program does not take 290 registrants, applicants need to be clean and sober for at least 60 days, no animals/pets, no children, etc. People need to do a Coordinated Entry (CE) intake to get into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) so they will be on the By Name List (BNL).

The participants pay for their fees (as of April 2023: $250.00 for shared room and $400.00 for single). Case managers can refer their clients or the individual can self-refer. Casa Dewitt Program referral form is at the DeWitt Center, 11434 B Avenue, Auburn. People can…
