The Adult Protective Services Program is intended to provide intervention activities directed toward safeguarding the well-being of elders and dependent adults suffering from or at risk of abuse or neglect, including self-neglect. A special 24-hour, 7-day a week, response program is available by calling Adult Protective Services: 916-787-8860 or toll free 888-886-5401.

APS Eligibility:
Elder (60 years and older) and dependent adults (18-59 years old) who experience abuse, neglect, self-neglect or financial exploitation and otherwise meet the eligibility criteria for Adult Protective Services (APS).

Adult Protective Services provides a support system to elderly and dependent adults who may be subject to neglect, physical abuse or exploitation, or who are unable to protect their own best interests. 

Conducts timely and thorough investigations to determine the validity of allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Investigates reports made on individuals who live outside of licensed homes or facilities. Offers comprehensive assessments and identification of root causes to achieve a thorough understanding of overall situations. Creates comprehensive service plans which may include referrals to other community agencies and provides preventive and supportive services in an effort to prevent abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation against elderly persons and adults with disabilities.
