To meet the needs of children and youth who may be at risk, and their families, Placer County has a team that offers comprehensive services. Staff from the following areas are on the team:

Eligibility
Eligibility for Placer Children's mental health services includes full scope Medi-Cal beneficiaries, and County Medical Services Program (CMSP) beneficiaries with low or no share of cost. Those who do not meet these eligibility criteria are assessed on an individual basis regarding their need for services.

No cost to foster youth. Cheaper than going straight to a 4 year college. No grade requirement.

If you did not receive your high school diploma, had bad grades, or received your GED, you can still go to a community college and then if, you wish, transfer to a 4 year college.

You can transfer to a 4 year college after you get 70 units at a community college which can be used toward obtaining a Bachelors degree. Vocational training programs also available such as nursing, computer programming, mechanics, and electronics to name a few.

Wayfinder Family Services has four programs serving Placer County. Three are direct referrals and one requires a call to the Placer County Mental Health Access line.

Kinship Support Services Program – call directly for referral. Wayfinder’s Kinship Support Services Program (KSSP) supports grandparents, extended family members or close family friends who step up to raise children so they avoid the trauma of separation from their birth family. KSSP is free of charge to families.

Home to Stay – can call directly or be referred by a provider. Home to Stay offers counseling and support services to kinship and birth families who are at high risk for out of home placement in Placer County. Wayfinder provides short-term in home counseling and parent education to enhance parenting skills, building supports and mitigating behavioral health risks to youth and families. Foster Care to Success (FC2S) is a national nonprofit organization working solely with college bound foster youth. They help foster youth navigate the tricky waters of academia, understand the importance of personal fiscal responsibility, determine achievable career goals, and create networks of friendship and support. They help by providing tuition grants, book money, living stipends and emergency funding for those unexpected expenses that could derail the most dedicated student on a tight budget.
