The Emergency Warming Center (EWC) in Truckee is scheduled to be open every Tue, Wed, and Thu through Thu 3/28/24 AND any other nights when weather triggers opening until 3/31/24.


WEATHER TRIGGERS FOR THE EWC TO OPEN

  • A temperature of 15 degrees F. or less with windchill
  • One foot or more of snow predicted overnight
  • Other severe or extreme weather condition/s as forecasted by the National Weather Service such as heavy rain or winds
  • and sufficient staff and volunteer coverage

  • This is an Emergency Shelter for unhoused adults 18+ years.
  • People who have housing but are stranded are unable to stay at the EWC.
  • Families with children under 18 are unable to stay at the EWC but can call the program phone for resources.
  • If someone is housed but fleeing a domestic violence situation, they can call the Sierra Community House helpline 24/7 at 800-736-1060.

    Riverview Homes serves seniors and people with special needs who lack the economic resources to access quality, safe housing opportunities. Accepts Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8); 3 to 4 bedroom units available.

    Each Mercy Housing community has its own leasing office and its own application process. Please call each community directly if you or your family would like to rent a low-income apartment home at one of Mercy Housing’s communities. When you call, the community staff can answer questions regarding apartment availability, rent, income requirements or restrictions and how to obtain an application for housing.

    The Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV) formerly known as the Section 8 Voucher Program, is a rental assistance program to help low and very low-income families, persons with disabilities, and seniors so they can live in affordable, safe, and decent housing.
