Children's Behavioral Health

Nevada County Behavioral Health Children's Mental Health serves children and youth who have Nevada County Medi-Cal and meet moderate to severe criteria for Behavioral Health Treatment: recent psychiatric hospitalization, Probation or Child Welfare involvement, significant challenges at school, homelessness, or a complex combination of concerns that may involve trauma, depression or anxiety symptoms, and housing instability.

Treatment location is based on need and can take place at the Nevada County Behavioral Health Office, schools, Family Resource Centers, or other locations convenient for the family. The Homeless Outreach and Medical Engagement (HOME) Team is a partnership between Nevada County, Hospitality House, Turning Point Community Programs and AMI Housing.

Call the HOME Team if you see or know someone who is experiencing homelessness. The HOME Team helps connect homeless individuals to services, including mental health services, medical care, public assistance services, and housing assistance services. 

The team can be reached by calling 530-470-2686 or emailing home@nevadacountyca.gov.
 
The HOME team consists of eight members: four outreach workers, housing navigators a peer supporter (someone with lived experience with homelessness), and a registered nurse. The goal of the team is to identify, engage, provide case management and housing support to highly vulnerable homeless residents of Nevada County.

Nevada County expectant and/or parenting youth, age 19 and younger, both male and female, are eligible to receive free case management services regardless of school attendance or school enrollment. Must be Nevada County residents.

Comprehensive case management services are designed to provide support in a variety of areas including but not limited to the following: education, health, childcare, transportation, housing, parenting skills, child development, and resources referral.

The program is run through the high school district, however school attendance and enrollment are not criteria for enrollment. The program is NOT site specific. The Young Parents Program is a district program and is offered to all sites listed in the High School District.

    Community Beyond Violence provides emergency confidential shelter services as necessary for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault and their children who are in immediate danger.

    They have a local Safe House and clients may stay up to 90 days after their intake. They also provide limited motel room stays to clients on an as needed basis. The Safe House is pet friendly. If you have a pet and are in need of CBV’s Safe House services, please let your advocate know at your intake.

    The PARTNERS Family Resource Center (FRC) provides a place for families in the Penn Valley area to connect, learn, and play. Assists families with child development, parenting support, counseling, education, employment tools, and community resources.

    NOTE: The FRC does NOT have any housing resources and does NOT have any gift cards, gas cards, etc.

    The FRC does offer public use computers, resource and lending libraries, Spanish language translation services, a play area, diapers, and a clothes closet.

    Offers playgroups Wednesday and Thursday from 10-11:30am for families with children ages 0-5. Offers weekly activities for older children. Call for details.
