PSPS is a Public Safety Power Shutoff event. Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) may do a PSPS when danger of wildfires is high. PSPS Care Coordination is a program to help PG&E customers who have health and medical needs that require electricity. Care Coordination helps to get a plan in place for resources that can be used during a PSPS power outage event. Callers will receive a follow up call from Connecting Point staff so they can create their plan. The care coordination call will typically take 30-45 minutes.
 
Who qualifies?
Those who have access & functional needs, and/or are electricity dependent during a power outage (examples include medical equipment or medications that rely on power, accessibility equipment that relies on power, etc).

The program is focused on hiring youth ages 16-30 to work with local nonprofits or government agencies in the areas of COVID-19 recovery, food insecurity, and climate action. The program is open to both English only and Spanish only speakers.

The Children’s Community Chest Program is a discretionary emergency fund of last resort to meet the needs of children ages 0-18 in Nevada and Sierra County families for whom no other community support is available or who find themselves in a situation that requires a timely response. The eligibility area includes parts of the Tahoe-Truckee region that are in Nevada County or Sierra County. 

A variety of hardships are funded, such as: emergency rental assistance, transportation needs, utility payment to avoid shut-off, car repairs, medical related costs, counseling services, and summer camps.

March 2024 - The NID Board of Directors has declared a“water shortage emergency” because damage to the PG&E-owned water transportation infrastructure in the headwaters has cut off water supply to the District. Advocate/Counselors are available 24 hours a day for counseling and response to the hospital or law enforcement. Depending on circumstances, possible emergency transportation, food, and shelter may be available to those in crisis. All services are free, confidential and non-discriminatory.

Auburn Interfaith Food Closet (AIFC) provides a Homebound Delivery Program (HBSD) - Since 2020, AIFC has a new program to deliver groceries once a month to low-income homebound persons (within their service area). AIFC will provide HBSD participants with enough food each month to make 12 nutritious meals. 

The home delivery service is not on-demand, but occurs monthly on a pre-established schedule. Each guest's order is customized monthly, to best serve their needs.

Amount of food
Each month, HBSD participants receive four days' worth of age-appropriate food for each member of their household.

WWJD? (What Would Jesus Do?) Inc. is a nonprofit, non-denominational organization in Western Placer County serving people who are homeless, transitionally homeless, and working poor. From a mobile van in each community at conveniently located sites, they serve their clients a warm breakfast and provide a bag full of food for their dinner. WWJD? can also provide clothing, blankets, tarps, sleeping bags, toiletries, laundry soap, pet food, and other sundries.

WWJD? is an all-volunteer agency providing a mobile food service in the Roseville, Auburn, & Colfax areas of Western Placer County, along with medical care and transportation, referral services for adults and children who are homeless.
