The Senior Outreach Nurse program provides health services to county residents 60 years and older. Offers comprehensive health and safety assessments, health screenings, fall prevention education, medication education/management resources, and continued in-home follow-up. In-home assessments review a client's medical, social, and environmental needs and offer health education consistent with client's needs. Will discuss referrals that are appropriate for clients, and help link them to other community resources and services. Provides follow-up visits and telephone calls as needed.

Offers outreach such as community based blood pressure clinics, flu shots in conjunction with Public Health, and participate in local health/wellness programs. Flu shots can be given to home-bound seniors. Call 530-265-1639 to arrange.

Senior Outreach Nurse does NOT do in-home COVID-19 TESTING. People who need in-home testing will need to get a home test kit.

Senior Nutrition Program
Gold Country Senior Services has been providing senior nutrition programs for older adults in Western Nevada County since 1987. They provide hot nutritious meals in a warm and friendly setting that provides older adults an opportunity to socialize. Each meal is prepared fresh and from scratch.

The Navigator for Seniors works with Nevada County residents to connect them with services for stated needs and also to see if there are any additional needs. The Senior Navigator assists with navigating programs and processes so people get connected to resources. Call 211 or 833-342-5211 for a referral to the Senior Navigator who will contact you to assist.

Senior Navigator does NOT assist with CalFresh or Medi-Cal applications.

Nevada County Now offers paratransit and senior on-demand dial-a-rides. There is no Sunday service. Service area includes Grass Valley, Nevada City, Penn Valley, Lake Wildwood, and other local areas (see link to map in Web Pages section below). Bus hours: 7am - 6pm  Monday - Friday. 7:30am - 4:30pm Saturday.

The Senior Firewood Program provides qualified seniors a limited amount of pine/fir to supplement their other home heating sources when wood is available. Also accepts donations of wood as able.

PLEASE NOTE: Anyone wanting to apply to receive wood or donate wood should call to learn the current status of the program. Wood supplies generally run out each season and there are not always enough volunteers to accept wood donations. Call 530-615-4541 to learn when applications open and whether donations are currently being accepted.

Must be enrolled in the Meals on Wheels program. Delivery is on Tuesdays & Thursdays (no deliveries on weekends, major holidays or when roads are unsafe to travel).
