In an effort to provide educational opportunities for the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces, the University of California has partnered with Governor Schwarzenegger, the California State University, California Community Colleges and the California Department of Veterans Affairs to implement the California Veterans Education Opportunity Partnership.

This partnership brings together the higher education, veterans and military communities to make the transition from military service to college a seamless one.

The University of California welcomes individuals who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces to apply for educational opportunities at any of our 10 world-class campuses.

Each UC campus provides detailed admission and transfer requirements for veterans, as well as dedicated veteran coordinators who can aid in the benefits process after admission.

Disabled American Veterans is an organization of disabled veterans who are focused on building better lives for disabled veterans and their families. The organization accomplishes this goal by providing free assistance to veterans in obtaining benefits and services earned through their military service. Nevada County Pets In Need operates the Nevada County Pets In Need Thrift Store. We offer clothing, shoes, accessories, books and all manner of household goods. Most items cost $1 however we have an over dollar area where items are priced individually.

Proceeds from the Thrift Store go to supporting local Pets in need of food, veterinary care, licensing, assist with spay and neuter, flea and tick products and collars and leashes.

We are a non profit organization supporting spayed and neutered pets of the homeless, low income, seniors and military veterans.

Thrift store is located at 434 Colfax Ave, Grass Valley, CA.

The Forgotten Soldier Program provides comprehensive transitional holistic healing therapies WITHOUT charge to Veterans and their family members.

Our goal is to help overcome Moral Injuries, TBI, PTSD, and MST (military sexual trauma).

The whole team at FSP is dedicated to and passionate about working with Veterans of every era and their Family Members.

Welcome Home Vets provides individual therapy for veterans and their families and support group meetings. WHV contracts with local psychologists who are knowledgeable in both psychotherapy and military culture.

WHV also provides advocacy for veterans and their families by working to increase community awareness of the problem of military-related psychological trauma and its effects on the veteran, the family, and the community.

Topics include:
Provides education information including military schools, military education and federal schools; information on military loans and military insurance;  virtual job fair with jobs for military, Veterans and those seeking federal employment, a directory of employers featuring thousands of employers, job postings and live job fairs.
 

Vet Centers are community-based counseling centers that provide a wide range of social and psychological services, including professional readjustment counseling to eligible Veterans, active duty service members, including National Guard and Reserve components, and their families.

Readjustment counseling is offered to make a successful transition from military to civilian life or after a traumatic event experienced in the military. Individual, group, marriage and family counseling is offered in addition to referral and connection to other VA or community benefits and services. Vet Center counselors and outreach staff, many of whom are Veterans themselves, are experienced and prepared to discuss the tragedies of war, loss, grief and transition after trauma.

The Center for Post Traumatic Growth (CPTG) promotes and supports the healing of combat veterans, law enforcement, first responders, and their families, from moral injury and trauma.

CPTG provides individual, couples, and group therapy to all eligible clients. Programs include:

• Post traumatic stress and moral injury group therapy for veterans and first responders

• Military sexual trauma group therapy

• Couples-Family group program

​​Troops to College was created to attract more veterans to California public universities and colleges by making campuses more veteran friendly. The initiative was designed to showcase the full range of curricula and services available to veterans at California State Universities.

The program is designed to help veterans, especially combat veterans, transition to civilian life and the college environment. Veterans and their families may enroll in a course about combat stress, post-traumatic stress disorders, and other issues affecting veterans returning to civilian life. The course is taught by a VA counselor who is also a combat veteran. The curriculum is specifically designed to increase the student veteran's academic, work, and social success. The class provides participants instruction in interpersonal skills, methods of adapting to civilian life and work careers, and techniques for managing military operational stress.
