Medi-Cal assistance is available through Human Services, one of six Divisions of County of Placer Health & Human Services.

Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. This is a public health insurance program which provides needed health care services for low-income individuals including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care, pregnant women, and low income people with specific diseases such as tuberculosis, breast cancer, or HIV/AIDS.

Medi-Cal offers medical, dental, vision and mental health care to eligible individuals and families at little or no cost. If you are ineligible to Medi-Cal, affordable insurance plans are available through the health benefits exchange, Covered California, during their November through December open enrollment.

Medi-Cal offers transportation to and from appointments for services covered by Medi-Cal. This includes transportation to medical, dental, mental health, or substance use disorder appointments, and to pick up prescriptions and medical supplies.
 
There are two types of transportation for appointments
  • Nonemergency medical transportation (NEMT) is transportation by ambulance, wheelchair van, or litter van for those who cannot use public or private transportation.
  • Nonmedical transportation (NMT) is transportation by private or public vehicle for people who do not have another way to get to their appointment.
Medi-Cal recipients with Partnership HealthPlan of California (PHC) can contact PHC for transportation services. PHC is the managed care provider for both Nevada and Placer Counties.

Medi-Cal
Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid health care program. This is a public health insurance program that pays for a variety of medical services for children and adults with limited income and resources.

Medicare Premium Payment Programs
Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people 65 or older, and some younger people with disabilities. To apply for Medicare, you need to go through the federal government - you can apply online at Medicare.gov. If you have Medicare coverage, Medi-Cal may be able to pay your Medicare Part B premiums through a Medicare Premium Payment Programs (MPPP).
