The Environmental Health Department of the Nevada County Community Development Agency is responsible for programs focused on environmental protection and some aspects of public health in Nevada County. These programs regulate food preparation in restaurants, installation of wells and septic systems, handling hazardous materials and other topics related to consumer protection.

For food poisoning complaints please be prepared to provide a three day food history if possible.

Scooter's Pals offers numerous programs for dogs.

Rescue & Adoption Program — Scooter's Pals rescues dogs scheduled to die in high-kill shelters. They spay/neuter, fully vaccinate, and give any vet care needed. They also provide foster care or interim boarding, including all food and vet care, till a good-fit, adoptive family is found.

As soon as a dog is deemed ready to be adopted, they add the dog's write--up, photo(s), and foster contact info to our Adoptable listings on Petfinder.com.

Their dedicated adoption team carefully reviews the adoption applications received for each dog (applications are required). They also conduct interviews and do a home check in an effort to find the best, good-fit match for each dog and each family, too.

Nevada County Pets In Need operates the Nevada County Pets In Need Thrift Store. We offer clothing, shoes, accessories, books and all manner of household goods. Most items cost $1 however we have an over dollar area where items are priced individually.

Proceeds from the Thrift Store go to supporting local Pets in need of food, veterinary care, licensing, assist with spay and neuter, flea and tick products and collars and leashes.

We are a non profit organization supporting spayed and neutered pets of the homeless, low income, seniors and military veterans.
