CalWORKs & Employment Services acts as a part of Human Services, one of six Divisions of County of Placer Health & Human Services.

If you are an adult with dependent children, you may be eligible for California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids, or CalWORKs. CalWORKs provides:

• Child care, work expense assistance, transportation, and counseling
• Education, employment and training programs through Employment Services
• Families with children financial assistance to meet their basic needs
• Support for families moving toward self-sufficiency

If you are eligible for CalWORKs you will automatically qualify for Medi-Cal and may also qualify for CalFresh. The Social Security Administration's Ticket to Work Program supports career development for Social Security disability beneficiaries age 18 through 64 who want to work. The Ticket Program is free and voluntary. The Ticket Program helps people with disabilities progress toward financial independence. Individuals who receive Social Security benefits because of a disability and are age 18 through 64 probably already qualify for the program.

The Penn Valley PARTNERS Family Resource Center (FRC) provides a place for families to connect, learn, and play. Assists families with child development, parenting support, counseling, education, employment tools, and community resources. It also offers playgroups for families with children ages 0-5.

• The FRC does not have any housing resources and does NOT have any gift cards, gas cards, etc.

Granite Wellness Centers’ Raíces Unidas provides culturally specific substance use and behavioral health disorder treatment for monolingual Spanish-speaking families. 

Services are available regardless of insurance coverage or citizenship status.

The program incorporates traditional healing practices, community engagement, and individualized care. Each participant is supported by a counselor, peer specialist, and therapist.

Services include:

• DUI education classes
• Batterers intervention
• Adult outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment
• Family therapy and referrals for mental health, housing, medical care, and employment
• Life skills support, including ESL, computer literacy, and resume building
• Specialized services for mothers in recovery
