The Sierra Vista Community Center offers community service programs, activities, and classes for all age groups in the Colfax area.

Services include:

  • Sponsoring activities and renting facilities, including a meeting space, a gymnasium, a commercial kitchen, and a ball field

Food distributions:

Regular monthly distributions from Feeding The Foothills are available at the Free Farmers Market at Sierra Vista Community Center.

Gold Country Senior Services (GCSS) offers activities and classes that may include Needlework Circle, Bridge, Bingo, Nutritional and Educational Workshops, Tai Chi, and Gentle Yoga. See current listings here.

Gold Country Senior Services also operates a Senior Center in Grass Valley. It's located at 231 Colfax Ave in Grass Valley. Senior Center Members receive half-price access to all programs and get to help choose the programs GCSS offers each month.

The Auburn Senior Center (ASC) serves as a hub offering socialization, recreation, and resources for seniors in Placer county.

Activities and services include:

  • Fitness and Wellness | Tai Chi, yoga/chair yoga, line dancing, low impact aerobics, and strength training
  • Games and Social | Regular sessions for bingo, mahjong (Chinese and American), chess, cribbage, and pinochle
  • Hobbies and Education | Classes in watercolor painting, woodcarving, knitting, and ukulele
  • Special Services:
    • AARP Tax Services: Free tax preparation by appointment (typically February - April)
    • Genealogy: Professional consultations available by appointment
    • Conversational Spanish classes

Additional notes:

A membership fee of $30/year applies to seniors under 90 years old.

Loomis Senior Life Center provides numerous programs and meets at the 1st United Methodist Church in Loomis. The center's goal is to expand the mind, the body, and the spirits of seniors to enable them to stay in their homes for as long as possible.

Well Connected (formerly Senior Center Without Walls) and Well Connected Español are phone and online programs offering activities, education, friendly conversation, and an assortment of classes and support groups to older adults accessible from the comfort of home. The programs consist of participants, staff, facilitators, presenters, and other volunteers who care about each other, and who value being connected to engaging content, and to each other. All activities are free to participants and are available in English and Spanish.

Well Connected members can play a game, learn a language, write a poem, go on a virtual tour, meditate, share a gratitude, get support, and most importantly, connect and engage with others every day across the country. Well Connected is a Community Service of Covia and is free of charge to all participants and available to adults over the age of 60.
