CalWORKs is a public assistance program that provides cash aid and services to eligible families that have a child(ren) in the home. The program serves all 58 counties in the state and is operated locally by county welfare departments.

The County of Placer has CalWORKs offices in Auburn, Rocklin, and Carnelian Bay (Tahoe).

If a family has little or no cash and needs housing, food, utilities, clothing or medical care, they may be eligible to receive immediate short-term help. Families that apply and qualify for ongoing assistance receive money each month to help pay for housing, food and other necessary expenses.

The amount of a family‘s monthly assistance payment depends on a number of factors, including the number of people who are eligible and the special needs of any of those family members. The income of the family is considered in calculating the amount of cash aid the family receives.

In collaboration with the Small Business Administration (SBA), Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), Placer School for Adults (PSA), and others, Placer Business Resource Center serves businesses of all sizes at every stage of the business life cycle. Placer County’s Business Advantage Network in association with Legal Services of Northern California offers a monthly Clean Slate Clinic to assist participants in removing or dismissing past convictions from their records.

Eligible participants are those who:

• Have no pending charges
• Are not on parole or have completed at least half of their probation term
• Have documentation of their criminal record either through court records (if they have only 1 to 2 convictions and no other arrest) or RAP Sheet (preferable)
• All fines, fees, and restitution have been completely paid or will soon be.

Transition Partnership Program (TPP) is a collaborative effort between the Placer County Office of Education and the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR), serving students with disabilities and other impediments to employment. Through the program, participants develop important knowledge and skills to gain work.

Eligibility

• Attend high school in Placer County
• Age 16-21
• Barrier to employment (i.e., IEP, 504 plan, mental health diagnosis, physical disability, etc.)

Placer School for Adults offers a variety of programs, including career pathways and college readiness courses, assisting students with achieving their educational, career, and personal goals through classes in the following areas:

PSA also partners with employers to provide educational training.
