Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. This is a public health insurance program which provides needed health care services for low-income individuals including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care, pregnant people, and low income people with specific diseases such as tuberculosis, breast cancer, or HIV/AIDS.

Medi-Cal is free or low-cost for California residents who meet eligibility requirements. Medi-Cal considers income, but there is no asset limit (bank accounts, cash, property, vehicles).

Most applicants who apply through Covered California and enroll in Medi-Cal will receive care through managed health care plans. In Nevada and Placer Counties, the managed care provider is Partnership HealthPlan of California (PHC). Medi-Cal is financed equally by the state and federal government. Medi-Cal offers transportation to and from appointments for services covered by Medi-Cal. This includes transportation to medical, dental, mental health, or substance use disorder appointments, and to pick up prescriptions and medical supplies.
There are two types of transportation for appointments:

  • Nonemergency medical transportation (NEMT) is transportation by ambulance, wheelchair van, or litter van for those who cannot use public or private transportation.
  • Nonmedical transportation (NMT) is transportation by private or public vehicle for people who do not have another way to get to their appointment.

Community Beyond Violence offers a 24 hour crisis line which is available 365 days a year to victims in crisis from domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, or dating violence, and for their friends or family members. Advocate/Counselors are available 24 hours a day for counseling and response to the hospital or law enforcement. Depending on circumstances, possible emergency transportation, food, and shelter may be available to those in crisis. All services are free, confidential and non-discriminatory.

  • Emergency shelter and safe housing (pet friendly) for up to 90 days

Dial-A-Ride service is designed to meet the needs of seniors (age 65+) and persons with qualifying disabilities, especially those who are unable to use the Yuba-Sutter Transit fixed-route system. Dial-A-Ride offers curb-to-curb shared ride service to eligible passengers within their service area. This service is available from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays. No service is provided on Sundays or holidays. Please call for more information.
