MPOX GENERAL & VACCINE INFORMATION - CDPH

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) provides up-to-date information about Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox), a rare but contagious disease caused by an Orthopoxvirus.

CDPH offers guidance on prevention, symptoms, home isolation, and vaccine eligibility.

Mpox is generally less severe and less contagious than smallpox but can spread through close contact with an infected person, animal, or surface.

Services include:

  • Public health information on Mpox transmission and symptoms
  • Guidance on home isolation and safety
  • Vaccine information and eligibility details
  • Regular updates from the California Department of Public Health

Additional notes:

CDPH does not administer vaccines directly. Local health departments may offer vaccines based on eligibility and supply.
