Backpack ProgramStatistically, 1 in 5 children in Placer, El Dorado and Nevada counties don’t know where their next meal will come from.
Most of these childrens’ primary source of food comes from meals provided by school programs. While many of us look forward to weekends and holidays with anticipation, these students approach these days with anxiety and apprehension.
This is why PFB developed
The BackPack Program: to provide nutritious, easy-to-prepare food for when school is not in session.
CalFresh, the state’s nutrition assistance program, has expanded to help supplement food budgets to ensure families in our community have access to proper nourishment.
Those who qualify for
CalFresh will receive an EBT card that works like a debit card at many grocery stores, farmers’ markets and even Amazon!
School PantryThe School Pantry Program is ideal for schools serving students that have an adult available to prepare and cook meals for them. PFB supplies a family sized bag of produce one week and nonperishable food the next. Menu items are selected based on feedback from the schools and their nutritional value. This program encourages student families to experiment with new healthy recipes, share their love of cooking and sit and enjoy a meal together. PFB distributes family bags of food benefiting 560 families per week.
