The Building Department issues all building permits as required per the current California Building Codes and any local building code amendments. As well as completes building inspections for new construction, renovations and remodeling work as approved through the building permit process.

Our department is committed to providing excellent service to the community in a timely, efficient and effective manner while maintaining compliance with minimum housing, building and safety laws. STORM DAMAGE FROM DECEMBER 27, 2021 STORM
Nevada County residents with storm damage repairs from the 12/27/21 storm will receive priority permitting and have local fees waived for repair permits through the Nevada County Community Development Agency (CDA) for serious repairs needed following the recent winter storms. The fee waivers will cover permit fees for storm-related repairs through December 30, 2023. Examples of permitted repairs from storm damage may include:
- electrical service damage
- structural roof repair
- septic repair
- well repair
- decking reconstruction
- foundation repair
